More Americans each year have picked up the use of marijuana. Whether they are using it for medical reason or illegally, more and more people in our society are becoming users. With that being said, it’s not a surprise that there are athletes that are using marijuana for recreational use. Since it is “4/20″, a holiday made up by marijuana users, Midway Madness presents ten athletes that have been caught using marijuana.
Tim Lincecum
Tim was caught in 2009 for possessing marijuana. Lincecum was pulled over by a police officer for a traffic violation. According to the report, Lincecum’s car reeked of marijuana and then handed over three grams of pot and the pipe he was using to smoke out of it. Is anyone surprised that this former two time Cy Young winner likes the wacky-tabaccy?
Michael Phelps
In 2009 (same year as Timmy-Tim-Jim) Olympic medalist, Michael Phelps was caught using marijuana after a picture surfaced in a British tabloid showing Phelps inhaling from a Bong.
Ricky Williams
In May of 2004, it was announced that Ricky Williams had tested positive for marijuana and faced $650,000 fine along with a four game suspension for violating the NFL’s substance-abuse policy. Shortly after training camp had begun in July of 2004, Williams publicly announced his early retirement from football. But that didn’t last very long. In 2005 Williams returned to the Dolphins.
Jerome Simpson
Wide receiver of the Cincinnati Bengals Jerome Simpson was caught earlier this year trying to traffic eight ounces of Marijuana. Federal authorities were tipped off that Simpson was in some sort of drug traffic scheme and were dispatched to his house in September where they seized a package that contained two and half pounds of marijuana. Later when they were able to search his residence, they found six more pounds along with scales and smoking devices.
Michael Beasley
Bulls fans are so happy that Chicago opted to draft Derrick Rose over Michael Beasley. And part of that decision to go with Derrick Rose came down to the fact that Beasley had many off-the-court issues. Beasley was caught using marijuana from a picture he tweeted of his new tattoo. What the genius forgot was that there was a bag of marijuana on the table that was in the picture frame. Busted!
Josh Howard
Now no one likes a tattle tail. Josh Howard admitted to the use of marijuana, but then went on a radio show and practically called out the entire NBA. He went on Michael Irvin’s radio show and told Irvin that he says more than half the league is a frequent user of the hippie lettuce. (Video would not embed, go to link for interview.)

Randy Moss
This soon-to-be first ballet Hall of Famer has admitted to using marijuana throughout his high-school and college career. So what is to say he isn’t using now? In 20o5, he did an interview where he said he would smoke once in a great while when football wasn’t in session. Happy 4/20 to you Mr. Moss. Get your smoke on.

Santonio Holmes
If there is one NFL player that is tries to get around the bi-weekly drug tests, it would be Mr. Holmes. In 2010 and during one of the slowest parts of the NFL offseason, Holmes tweeted “Time to wake n bake.” The tweet came earlier at a little after 9:00am which one would assume he was headed to McDonald’s breakfast.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
The Big Man, the NBA’s all-time leading scorer had been caught once or twice smoking the ganja. In 1998, Kareem was stopped by customs in a Toronto airport and was caught with possession of “minuscule amount” of pot. In 2000, he was stopped and cited for driving under the influence of marijuana and apparently was found to have a prescription of medical marijuana for migraine headaches.

Bill Walton
Now I haven’t found creditable evidence that Walton is a true user of the marijuana, but multiple articles and written pieces point into the direction that Mr. Walton is a frequent user of pot. Walton is openly proud of being a “Dead Head” and he has been seen hanging out with Jerry Garcia. But what really takes the cake is that he was drafted by the Trail Blazers in 1974, while blazing trail. No. But just watch this video and you be the judge.
