Series Preview: White Sox vs. Red Sox, Youkilis’ Return

The White Sox kicked off the second half of the season by winning two out of three games against the Kansas City Royals at Kauffman Stadium. Now, it will be a battle of the Sox in Kevin Youkilis’ first trip back to Fenway Park since being traded in June. How will Youkilis handle playing against the Red Sox for the first time in his career? How many home runs will Adam Dunn rack up this series? Midway Madness will keep you posted.

Probable Starters

Game 1 (6:10 p.m. CT)

Dylan Axelrod (1-2, 6.16 ERA) vs. Aaron Cook (2-2, 4.37 ERA)

Game 2 (6:10 p.m. CT)

Philip Humber (3-4, 6.01 ERA) vs. Jon Lester (5-6, 4.49 ERA)

Game 3 (6:10 p.m. CT)

TBA vs. Felix Doubront (9-4, 4.41 ERA)

Series Studs

CWS: Adam Dunn (4-10, 3 HR, 4 RBI)

  • Dunn continued to show how much of a fluke last season was as he hit three home runs in the series against the Kansas City Royals. With 28 home runs so far this season, he’s looking more like the Adam Dunn that hit 38 or more home runs from 2004-2010.

BOS: Jacoby Ellsbury (6-14 in first series since return from injury)

Series Duds

CWS: Paul Konerko (2-13, 4 SO)

  • It seems that Paul Konerko is human after all. Paul Konerko has been everything but a dud for the Sox this season, but he only managed to get two hits in this series while striking out four times, including a three-strikeout in the first game. How will he respond against Boston?

BOS: Jarrod Saltalamacchia (1-8, 4 SO)
